The Good
The Blueair 403 is a medium sized unit, only slightly larger than the A350, but smaller than the BreatheSmart. It is superbly designed and exceptionally quiet, as Blueair prides themselves on having some of the quietest air purifiers on the market. This is echoed through their “HEPASilent” naming conventions for their replacement filters. The 403 overall is simple and easy to operate, and although their warranty period is short, you can expect this Swedish designed unit to perform faithfully for many years.
The Bad
The 403 is a very basic unit. While the simple design may appear as a plus, there tends to be more guesswork in operating it. For example, there is no built in filter change indicator to tell you when the filter needs replacing. Blueair only sends you a 6 month timer that sticks to the unit, but doesn’t stop counting down when your unit is turned off. In addition, without wheels and a metal body, the 403 is less mobile than similarly sized units.
Summary
If low noise and simplicity are important to you, this is your unit.
